Gertrude A. Hammond
NORWAY - Gertrude A. Hammond, 86, died Sunday, Aug. 20, at her residence on Tamarack Drive.
She was born in Albany, Dec. 15, 1919, a daughter of Fred J. and Flora (Stearns) McKeen. She had worked in the kitchen of SAD 17 in South Paris for more than 21 years, and retired in 1987.
She was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans in East Stoneham, member of the Giddion International Auxiliary and a member of the South Paris Baptist Church.
She was married in East Stoneham, on June 21, 1952, to Harland E. Hammond, who died in West Paris, Oct. 24, 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jones of Norway and Patricia Parent and husband, Peter, of Plainville, Mass.; grandsons, Aaron Parent of Plainville, Mass. and Matthew Jones of Philadelphia, Pa.; a niece, Sandra Brown of Oxford; grandnieces; and a grandnephew.
Mrs. Mary E. (Smith) McAlister Kimball
Stow--Mary E. (Smith) McAlister Kimball,88,of Stow passed away at her home
on August17,2006with her devoted family by her side. Born in South Paris on
May 26, 1918, she was a daughter of Percy and Maggie Kimball Smith. She had
lived nearly all her life in the North Fryeburg, Lovell and Stow area.
A gentle woman who dearly loved her children and granchildren, she was a
homemaker and rarely worked out of the home. She enjoyed crafts of
crochetting,knitting and making quilts and rarely sat down without taking up
some kind of hand work. She had made and given all her children and
grandchildren afghans or quilts over the years.
Mrs. Kimball was predeceased by her first husband of 55 years, Kenneth
McAlister; a son, Linwood McAlister and two grandchildren, Angel Eastman and
Kevin Wight. She remarried in 1991 to Walter E. Kimball, who survives her.
She is also survied by her children, Barbara Eastman and her husband Frank,
Donald McAlister and wife Chris, Joyce Parmenter and husband William, Edward
McAlister and wife Marie and Beverly Wight and Husband Allan: 19
grandchildren;32 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law Linda McAlister
Moore.
A graveside service was held at 19a.m. on Monday,August21 at Riverside
Cemetery in North Fryeburg.

MADISON --Lester R. Card, 90, passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at
Maplecrest Rehabilitation & Living Center in Madison.
He was born July 19, 1916, in Albany, the son of William and Florence
(McAllister) Card. He served as a Storekeeper Third Class in the Navy
during World War II, where he received the World War II Victory Medal and
the American Theatre Medal. Following his military service he worked as a
salesman at W.B. Arnold, Stern's department store, W.T. Grant and Sears,
Roebuck and Co. He was actively involved in the theatre arts, having
performed in various minstrel shows and play productions. He was a member
of Sacred Heart Church in Waterville for many years.
Lester was predeceased by his first wife, Hester M. Card and his second
wife, Margaret Y. Card.
Lester is survived by his children, Robert Card of Madison, and Patricia
Card of Hawaii; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and one brother,
Herman Card of Norway.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday,
Aug. 16, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Sacred
Heart Church, 70 Pleasant St., Waterville. Committal prayers and burial
will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic
